The Evolution of Bank of America's Life Event Services Team
Lori's presentation will focus on sharing the story of Bank of America's Life Event Services team, an in-house Global HR team dedicated to supporting employees, retirees and in certain situations, family members, who are impacted by a significant life events including taking a leave of absence, retiring from the company, facing a terminal illness, experiencing the loss of a loved one, critical events such as a natural disaster, or domestic violence. The team also supports our employees who are transitioning gender within the workplace.

As a Global Human Resources Executive, Lori Henkel leads U.S. Life Event Services (LES) including the GHR Escalations and Executive Escalations teams, GHR Business Continuity as well as the ER/LES Integrated Operations team which provides operational and change management support across LES and Global Employee Relations. In role, Lori designed, built and now leads the U.S. Life Event Services team that helps support employees, retirees and family members who are experiencing significant life events. The support provided by Life Event Services includes helping with complex Leaves of Absence (LOA), the event of Retiring from the Bank, terminally ill employees, Survivor Support for employees, retirees and their families, support for transgender teammates during a workplace transition (including support for employees in Hong Kong and Singapore), employees impacted by critical events such as a natural or man-made disasters and domestic violence.
Lori joined Bank of America in 2006 leading Executive Engagement for the International MBNA HR merger. Post go-live, she joined the International Shared Services (ISS) team to lead ISS communications, training, engagement, project management, vendor management and business controls. With the announcement of the Merrill Lynch merger, Lori moved back into the GHR transition space, leading the GHR Merrill Lynch International Change Adoption team which provided communications, training and engagement support for the countries outside of the U.S. with a Merrill Lynch presence. Following the GHR ML International Transition role, Lori was the Workforce Management Change Executive for the Fidelity to Aon Hewitt GHR vendor transition accountable for implementing the global my Learning tool, the Performance & Talent Management tool, U.S. Staffing Integration and Compensation tool Integration and enhancements. She then designed and led the GHR Employee Experience team which had three key areas of focus- the U.S. GHR Escalations team, the GHR Employee Experience Research & Operations team and the GHR Adoption, Communications & Engagement (ACE) team which managed global GHR operational communications, GHR Initiative communications, engagement & training as well as GHR engagement routines. The Employee Driven Transformation assessment, led by Lori’s Employee Experience Research team, was the foundational research project that identified the opportunity, based on client feedback, to build the U.S Life Event Services team in 2014 to better support our U.S. employees during significant life events. Lori’s role expanded in 2015 to include designing and building Employee Relations Operations and in 2016, to lead GHR Business Continuity.
Lori attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and has a B.A. degree in Journalism & Mass Communications with concentrations in English and advertising.
Lori lives in Charlotte with her husband and best friend of 25 years, Mike, and two sons Christian (21) and Donovan (14). Lori was a member of the John Crosland School Board of Directors for four years where she led the Marketing Committee and was an active member on the Head of School search committee.
